Head's Update June 2025
Bartonian Blooms
We were delighted to award our first tranche of “Bartonian Blooms” petals to many children across the school this month. This initiative is one we have been working on with children, governors and community members to devise a “passport” of activities children can complete from a range of categories including the arts, broadening horizons, the local environment, well-being, community, the world and life skills. The passports and badges were kindly funded through a very generous donation from “The Scott Bader Foundation”. The children who received their first petal were very proud to share their award and details of the activities they have completed already. We hope this is another exampled of ways we can educate our children, beyond the curriculum, to be good citizens and to “do good” in the world.
“Teddy Bears’ Picnic”
It was lovely to have our new intake of Reception children in school for a teddy bears’ picnic where they had the chance to meet their new teachers and have a tour of the school. These children will be the very first children in our brand new classrooms and to benefit from our wonderful new early years outdoor area which has been designed by Timotay who have done a wonderful job!
We are also very grateful for the generosity of local sponsors who have contributed the funds to buy specific items for the new Early Years area: Number 29 coffee house (raised bed / planter); Shellplant (picnic bench); Mineral Star (construction bench & tools); T Sharp Windows (picnic bench). Thank you all! We will share photos of the new area once it is finalised.
School trips and visits
Despite the weather not being kind, our Year Six children enjoyed a wonderful week of camping and outdoor activities in Dorset in early June. The children showed real resilience, perseverance and positivity in overcoming new challenges and trying new experiences. They should be commended for their behaviour and demonstration of our school values all week; whether in rain or (the very limited!) sunshine. Thanks, as always, to the staff who accompanied them on this residential.
Our Year Five children recently completed a stellar performance at The Castle Theatre in Wellingborough where they all shone on stage! They were part of a mass choir of seven primary schools supporting Weavers Academy in their performance of “Tales of Jason and the Golden Fleece”. Thanks to Weavers Academy staff for leading on this wonderful performance and all of the rehearsals and logistical arrangements.
Finally, our Year Two children enjoyed a day trip to Old Hunstanton on a very hot day! The children had the opportunity to visit the RNLI lifeboat station, paddle in the sea, build sandcastles and enjoy a good olf-fashioned trip to the seaside! This helped to bring to life their geography and history learning; comparing seasides in Victorian times to today.
New-build
The end is in sight! We are seeing the final stages of the building works now as the work has moved mainly to the interior with painting and decorating happening right now. We are hopeful the extension will be all finished and signed off by building control ready for 1st September.
