VE Day

All children across the school have learnt about the 80th anniversary of VE Day in special assemblies during the week of VE Day. As well as age-appropriate follow-up in classrooms and some hat-making!

VE day

On Thursday 8th May in the afternoon, the School Council were fantastic ambassadors for the school when they were invited to Jeyes to join in the 80th anniversary VE Day celebrations and the sing-a-long on The Square. Some of the children were interviewed by Anglia News and spoke very eloquently about their learning about World War II and what VE Day meant to them. All the children joined in singing some wartime classics and the national anthem with enthusiasm and then they had the opportunity to try on some of the helmets, sit in the jeep and handle some of the guns and hand grenades. Finally, they were given an ice cream, something that was not available at the end of the war!

Our “Super 12” Year Three children also enjoyed their visit to Jeyes as part of their day of learning about VE Day in school on Thursday. Thanks to Jeyes for inviting us and to the staff who led these experiences.

New Intake

We were delighted to have been over-subscribed this year for new Reception children who will join our school community in September and be the first children in our brand new Early Years classrooms. We have written to new families to outline our transition activities which will occur over the summer including a teddy bears’ picnic, stay and play, nursery visits and home visits. We look forward to welcoming many new families into the EBPS community.

School trips and visits

Some lovely out-of-school learning opportunities occurred last month; a group of Key Stage Two children attended Irchester Country Park for an orienteering course led by Northamptonshire Sport – which they thoroughly enjoyed. A group of Year 4 children for a Design Technology day at Weavers academy which was a really useful insight for the children into life in a secondary school. After SATs week, our Year 6 children enjoyed a fun day, picnic lunch, rounders, games and ice-creams at Earls Barton recreation ground.

Many of our Year Three children also enjoyed a fantastic two-night residential to a PGL centre in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire where they experienced many adventurous outdoor activities, team-building, problem-solving and more. The children were excellent ambassadors for our school and received many compliments on their behaviours, attitudes, values, manners and organisational skills!

Special thanks, as always, to our very dedicated staff team who lead these experiences (for no extra pay or compensation) to ensure our children have a well-rounded, memorable and enjoyable primary education.

Build

New-build

Our new build is nearing the final construction phase before internal decoration and fixings are carried out. The roof is now complete and all windows and doors are in, making the five-classroom extension watertight at last!

We have worked with a local company, Timotay in Wollaston, to design a brand new early years outdoor area. If any local company would like to sponsor an item for the outdoor area and have their name engraved in the wood of the children’s role-play “shop”, “kitchen”, “estate agents”, “garage” or similar – please contact the school and we would be delighted to work with you!
